A recent investigations into the activities of Gambia’s Civil Service, under the administration of former dictator Yahya Jammeh, mounted by the government of Adama Barrow, has revealed that there are over 400 ghost workers currently in the system receiving salaries, Freedom Radio Gambia can reveal. The non-existent workers are causing the Gambian state millions of dalasis in terms of payroll expenses.
The fraud has been going on for a while. For some reasons, the Ministry of Finance and the Personnel Management office (PMO) failed to catch the alleged payroll discrepancy.
Inside the PMO, there is shock and disbelief among staff, about the recent report, which will no doubt paint the former Jammeh dictatorship as Africa’s most corrupt regime.
The Barrow government is yet to officially share the disturbing report with the public. This medium can confirm that over 400 ghost workers have been cashing in with the former and present Barrow government. It is not clear if the regime will not take punitive measures to correct the massive fraud, which has caused an adverse economic loss to the state.
